Restoring Teeth with the CEREC One Visit Crowns New Braunfels Loves

Tooth restoration used to be a process that required two or more visits to complete. Dr. David Earnest and the Comal Dental team would discover the decay or damage, recommend a treatment using porcelain crowns, inlays or onlays, and you’d schedule a second visit to prepare the tooth and create an impression. Then, you’d wait with a temporary, plastic restoration that tended to be less comfortable and was easily damaged or dislodged. Finally, your permanent restoration arrived, and you had to schedule another appointment to have it placed. The whole process seemed to take an excessive amount of time and money. You couldn’t help but thinking there had to be an easier way to repair your broken smile. Thanks to CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), there is. CEREC offers you the ability to have your tooth prepared and restored in just one visit. If you’re interested in learning more about CEREC or any of our outstanding services, call our New Braunfels, TX practice to find out more today.

CEREC is a CAD/CAM (computer-assisted design/computer-assisted manufacturing) system that allows Dr. Earnest and his team to design and mill crowns, inlays, onlays, fillings, and even porcelain veneers for patients the same day they are treated. At Comal Dental, our team is experienced at creating natural, comfortable restorations using the CEREC system. It all starts with a consultation.

If Dr. Earnest notices you’re in need of repair to one or more teeth, he will examine the damage and discuss your treatment options. Once you determine that CEREC is the right restoration option for you, an appointment will be scheduled to prepare your tooth and restoration and place the restoration all in one day. Because the ceramic has to be milled, you should expect to be at Comal Dental for at least 2 hours, but we will give you a more specific timeline based on your unique dental care plan.

The day of your appointment, Dr. Earnest will gently prepare your teeth, and using state-of-the-art digital imaging, we’ll create extremely precise, computer generated impressions. In the past, impressions were made for labs using trays and alginate (a material similar to that used by artists to create molds). These negative impressions were then used by ceramists to create the restoration. While they were generally very close to the necessary shape and size, these restorations tended to require additional shaping of the tooth before bonding and adjustments to the restoration after placement. Using digital impressions, we are able to create a much more exact impression of your bite.

This impression is used by the CEREC mill to create your restoration right in our office. Depending on the size of the restoration, the milling process takes about 45 minutes. Once your custom restoration is completed, Dr. Earnest will place it the same day. Leaving you with a fully restored, beautiful smile you’ll be proud to share. All without the hassle of placing and replacing temporary restorations.
